My aim is to overtime replace the traditional lecture-based educational model with one that is student-centered, personalized, and competency-based. Thank you for joining me on this important journey.

1. Embrace a culture of T.R.I.C.K.

My acronym T.R.I.C.K. embodies the culture that you want to create in a classroom, home, and work environment:

  • Trust students

  • Respect each other

  • Foster Independence

  • Enable Collaboration

  • Support with Kindness

2. Transition from “Sage on the Stage” to “Guide on the Side”

  • Student Agency: Students as the CEO of their own education. The teacher's role is guiding, curating, and supporting.

  • Passion-Building: Students must find their passion in work and learning. Educators must embrace student failure, and reward effort and dedication.

  • Real-World Work: Students must produce learning projects with real-world applications and an authentic audience.

  • Mastery Learning: Students must work to meet expectations and learning standards, as opposed to earning grades.

  • Leveraging Technology: To support flexibility with learning and time in the classroom. Using blended learning is key: the best of face-to-face and online.

3. Foster 21st Century Skills – The 4 C’s

Skills that are learned by doing, and in demand by job seekers:

  • Critical Thinking

  • Collaboration

  • Communication

  • Creativity

4. Start Using Tract

On Tract, students learn the 4 C’s and can build passions through real-world projects that support Common Core curriculum standards. In addition, students are introduced to the world's biggest challenges via the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and are empowered to save the world through the Coins they earn:
